Description
Historically a highly revered tree, Cypress was used both medicinally and spiritually as a purifying incense. Its botanical name sempervirens means evergreen or ‘live forever’, which may refer to the longevity of the tree (living for up to 1000 years) as well as its therapeutic properties.

Nature/Essence – Toning & Fortifying
Cypress has a toning, cleansing effect on oily skin and can be applied to minor wounds as an antiseptic and to quickly stem bleeding or other discharge. It is a great addition to an aftershave balm or tonic, and has a suitable woody masculine scent.
Cypress is a key oil for varicose veins, spider veins, haemorrhoids and fluid retention – used topically to help constrict and tone blood vessels and thus encourage circulation. It is great in natural deodorants and foot applications, providing a fresh clean scent along with deodorising and astringent properties to help with excessive perspiration. Cypress is very helpful for spasmodic coughs and bronchitis to help open the airways and ease spasms. It is known to have an affinity for the female reproductive system, used for menstrual regulation and cramps, and during menopause when hot flushes and irritability are present.
Cypress is said to help strengthen the spirit, fortifying against fear and lack of confidence and calming anger or irritability. It is recommended when feeling overwhelmed and during transitional times – physical and mental – providing emotional support and steadiness during bereavement, relationship breakups or pressure, changes of career or home, or any major life changes.
